A 29-year-old Kiwi has won Australia’s Strongest Man competition.

Hawke’s Bay man Rongo Keene, who has tribal connections to Ngati Pahauwera, is going viral on Facebook for his performance in the New Zealand Strongman Championship in Auckland. In particular is his effort in the stone run event.
The men who took part in the championship, at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds over the weekend, were involved in up to seven events.
Rongo Keene was first introduced to New Zealand as a fresh-faced aspiring singer on NZ Idol.
Keene, who goes by the moniker The Warrior, now tips the scales at 150kg and claimed the title of Australia’s Strongest Man after lifting, heaving and pulling more weight than six rivals.
Former New Zealand Idol singing sensation Rongo Keene has hit the top of the charts across the Tasman – as a competitive strongman.
